Losing a beloved animal
If you’re reading this, it’s likely you have lost a beloved animal, quite probably your best friend. You may be grieving as much as if you lost a child or dear friend. You may find yourself in a black hole of despair with no hope of seeing the light. Perhaps you are suffering in silence because your friends and family don’t understand the intensity of your suffering.
Please know that whatever you are feeling is normal and natural.
Many years ago, I lost my gorgeous Abby, my red-headed white dog. I grieved so long and so deeply, I began to question my mental health. Friends told me I was acting abnormally, that she was only a dog, and I could always get another one. It was at that moment that I knew I couldn’t be the only person who grieved so intensely for an animal, and I vowed to help other people suffering the way I did.
Through much study into the grief process and my own experiences, I have developed the skills to help you through the mourning process. You may not ever get completely over your grief, but you can soften the pain you feel now. When you choose to heal yourself, you will experience gratitude for the joys you shared with your pet. With time, the sorrow you feel now will be replaced with joyful memories of your beloved best friend.
